You might be wondering – what does it take to get placed really well on a big keyword in YouTube?
I can finally tell you. Way over 100 videos focused on the subject.
I searched “thailand” today on YouTube just to see where I’m coming up and boom – I’m all over it. (see screenshot below)
I don’t know how long this has been going on and now I’m curious to check my view stats.
I have the top spot on the page – and sort of the top 3 spots, they layer 3 of my videos – stacked – so, technically I have top 3, but, the one below mine probably gets more clicks than the two videos under my first one. Why they chose the millipede video to feature, I haven’t a clue. Maybe it appealed to widest demographic? I must have 50 videos that are better than that one – more interesting, like this one – part of my Gross Grub Series.
It also gives 2 different links to reach my 29 Thailand Wildlife videos in that first spot.
And a link to my YT home page: Thaipulsedotcom
Scrolling down I have more videos listed on the page…
Bottom left I have Thai TV – Baby Cobra in the Street
On the right side – 2nd to bottom in the list I have…
I did another search and got even better results – so you’ll have to see the screenshot below because now it doesn’t match what I just told you – it’s better.
Many of the videos I have are high quality. I shot with 640×480 resolution but when I created the videos with Windows movie maker I used over 2,000 kbps so they were large files to upload to YouTube.
I have a pretty good variety of videos too – they’re not all Thai wildlife, I have gross things I eat, some travel videos, some Buddhist temples. Having a range of subjects is probably pretty key for top results on a general keyword like Thailand.
I have about 160 videos on YouTube at this thaipulsedotcom account. I have a lot of good ratings but they range from 3-5 stars. Some videos are short, some are 10 minutes.
I’m part of the YouTube partner program so there are ads on the videos. Maybe they like to feature users in the program so it contributes to their bottom line.
I’ve been uploading videos about Thailand for over 3 years. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I upload regularly too – again, might have something to do with it.
My homepage at YouTube has a Google PageRank of 5. I do link to the home page from some of my Thailand websites – so I’m sure that helps. I’m sure some people link to it from their own sites.
I have over 1,900,000 views of my videos at this account – so maybe that is contributing to it?
I allow comments and video responses, but after I approve. I probably trash half the idiot comments I get – and I don’t let people cuss much at all. Does that have something to do with it? Possibly. If videos are more family friendly – then they can feature the videos more places.
I mark the location of Thailand videos I’ve shot – usually just with “Thailand” in general, but occasionally I specifically choose a city.
So – what does it take to own YouTube search. A LOT. I didn’t intend to do well in this area, it just sort of happened. I love sharing videos about Thailand. It’s an amazing place that gets a bad rap sometimes. I couldn’t choose a better place to live for the last 5 years.
Come visit Thailand – and you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the amount of things there are to do – and I’m not talking about getting drunk and watching ladyboys dance on the tables. I mean good quality fun stuff for the family.
No joke. Visit!
